A former Dallas-area minister has been sentenced to prison time after he came to Bryan intending on meeting with a year-old girl for sex. Tuesday, Joe Barron was sentenced to seven years behind bars following a plea deal reached earlier this month. Barron must serve a quarter of the sentence before he is eligible for parole, and has to register as a sex offender for ten years after his release. Barron, 53, was arrested in May when he came to Bryan. Police had been chatting with Barron online, though Barron thought he was conversing with a year-old girl. In those chats, Barron agreed to meet with the "teen" for sex.

The first arrest was made Tuesday, when Bryan resident Christopher Scott Kazmierski allegedly began chatting to who he thought was a 13 year-old girl online. Police were also there, when a minister from Plano drove more than three hours Thursday to meet up with what he thought was a 13 year-old Bryan girl. He showed up in a different vehicle, even circled the parking lot and messaged the teen, but police we're able to put two and two together. Police found a hymn book in his car, but there was also a box of condoms and a web camera, which police believe was intended to be a present for the girl. Barron is charged with online solicitation of a minor. Prestonwood Baptist Church issued the following statement regarding Barron's arrest: "We are disturbed and saddened by the reports we have heard, and we are praying for the Barron family. We are fully cooperating with the police in their investigation.

A minister at a Dallas-area megachurch was charged with online solicitation of a minor after police said Friday he was caught in an Internet sex sting. Undercover officers posing as a year-old girl communicated with year-old Joe Barron of Plano for about two weeks. The online conversations were sexual in nature, police said. On May 6, Barron suggested meeting the girl in person. He eventually made the nearly mile drive to Bryan on Thursday, where he was arrested.
