A vaginal hysterectomy is a procedure that surgeons perform through the vagina to remove the uterus. A woman can often go home the same day or within 24 hours of the surgery. She can also return to normal activity after 6 weeks, though a hysterectomy has lifelong effects.
A hysterectomy is surgery to take out the uterus. In some cases, the ovaries and fallopian tubes also are taken out at the same time. You can expect to feel better and stronger each day, but you may need pain medicine for a week or two. It's normal to also have some shoulder or back pain. This is caused by the gas your doctor put in your belly to help see your organs better.
